Also, any year or decade is better than this one for obvious reasons. From Margaritas to Manhattans, we’ve come up with just the cocktail to beat the summer heat: The Blood & Sand. The “Blood & Sand” Cocktail was invented in the 20s and is as relevant today. The simplest of classics that’s been around for a century was inspired by an equally classic movie. The cocktail is a tribute to a movie of the same name starring Italian actor- Rudolph Valentino. The original film was produced in 1922 with Valentino and was remade in 1941 and then again in 1989 with Sharon Stone. A Scotch Whisky based drink, the red juice of the blood orange in the drink helped link it with the film.Recipe:Ingredients: 3/4 oz Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice3/4 oz Sweet Vermouth3/4 oz Cherry Heering (also, a great substitution for the brandy because of it’s natural cherry flavour)3/4 oz Blended ScotchMethod:Combine all ingredients in a collins glass, add another splash of orange juice then flame the zest over it. Serve straight up in a classic cocktail glass, no ice needed.Garnish with an Orange Zest or A cherry.
